The effect of microglial inhibition on NFTs. Staining of NFTs by Thioflavin-S revealed a reduction in neurons containing NFT in mice aged 6 months when comparing saline (C) with fibrin γ377-395 peptide-conjugated γ-Fe2O3 nanoparticles (D) (n = 8 mice, 124 areas). No differences in NFTs were found in mice aged 3.5 months when comparing saline (A) with the treatment hemisphere (B) (n = 4 mice, 246 areas). Scale bar: 50 μm.
