Cellular uptake of NPs in Neuro-2a cells as analyzed by ICP-MS. Depicted are data for TiO2 NPs (a) and Ag NPs (b). The 49Ti and 107Ag isotopes were selected for Ti and Ag detection, respectively. The internal standard was monitored using 115In. Analysis was conducted using a quadrupole ICP mass spectrometer, operated in standard mode. TiO2 was also detected in samples without cells, which indicates that NPs physically attach to cell culture plates and cannot be completely removed by subsequent washing with PBS. (*) indicates a significant difference between two treatment groups as determined by student’s t test (p < 0.05)
