Mechanism of PHB-targeted nanotherapy for reversal of obesity in diet-induced obese rats. The targeted NPs will bind to the PHB receptor on the cell surface. Once the nanomaterials are internalized, the therapeutic peptide will trigger cytochrome C release from the mitochondria, followed by caspase activation then cell death through apoptosis.
