The effect of NAC pre-incubation on co-culture cell viability and chromosomal damage was evaluated by CBPI and the in vitro CBMN assay. Co-culture models exposed to neutral-FLG (a), amine-FLG (b), carboxyl-FLG (c) and CB (d) showed no significant cytotoxicity, moreover the presence of 1.5 mM NAC prior to exposures appeared to reduce the genotoxic impact of each test ENM to where no significant response was observed. Results were considered significant (*) when p < 0.05. MMC (0.01 µg/ml) demonstrated a 6.2% Mn/BN frequency. Data is presented as the average value ± the standard deviation (SD), (N = 3)
