SWCNTs localized within cells visualized by confocal Raman spectroscopy. A confocal Raman image (with 100 Ă— oil objective, data acquired in 1 ÎĽm increments) was acquired of the focal plane of a fixed, hematoxylin-labeled HeLa cell that had been exposed to SWCNTs for 2 days. The left image shows the spatial distribution of the SWCNT (G-band) Raman intensity, and the right image superimposes the Raman intensity onto a phase contrast image. SWCNT intensity was sub-cellularly localized, preferentially in the perinuclear regions and the cytoplasm. This image is representative of more than 10 imaged cells.
