A hypothetical mechanism of self-assembly formation of the spherical BA-Al NPs. (i) The carbonyl and hydroxy groups on the two BA self-assembled to form dimer by binding Al3+. (ii) The dimers are connected by intermolecular hydrogen bonds. (iii) The dimers cross-linked to form three-dimensional spherical nanoparticles
