The preparation of pNIPAM-MAG-CNMs. A thermal-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (pNIPAM) is grafted with Fe3O4 nanoparticles onto the carbon nanotubes’ open ends using the surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) method. The cavities of the nanotubes could transport both proteins and ions effectively and could be reversed in operation in a magnetic-thermal sensitive way to separate proteins of different sizes.
