aEDTA improved PDT efficacy of PpIX against planktonic S. aureus. Exponentially growing S. aureus were preincubated separately with the combinations of PpIX (17.77 μM) and EDTA (0.5 mM) or aEDTAs (C8-EDTA, C12-EDTA, C14-EDTA, C15-EDTA, C16-EDTA, or C18-EDTA; 0.05 mM EDTA-eq.) for 1 h followed by illumination for 1 h, 2 h, or 3 h.
